TOURS RIVIERA MAYA
ISLA MUJERES
Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo is a prodigious island located in the Caribbean Sea. A splendid destination with coral reefs, cliffs and promenade with dolphins.
Isla Mujeres unites the beauty of the Caribbean, the thickness of the rainforest and the fascinating legacy of the Mayan civilization. It was discovered in the year 1517 by Spaniards during the expedition commanded by Francisco Hernández de Córdoba. In pre-Hispanic times, the island was consecrated to the Mayan goddess of the moon, love and fertility; Ixchel, which received offerings with feminine forms that believers deposited on the beaches. When arriving the Spanish conquerors and observing the figures that gave by offering, they baptized it like Island Women.
The island was also a refuge and home to pirates and slave traders, such as Mundaca, Fermín and Marecheaga.
Its warm and crystalline waters are the ideal place for turtles and dolphins, one of the most attractive activities is to swim with them.
Due to its altitude, there is a natural rock formation next to the Garrafón reef and it is the highest cliff above sea level in the entire Yucatan Peninsula.
The sunsets are spectacular, its beaches are rather white sand paths ideal for watching the sea and sunbathing. There are different attractions on the island; the Garrafón National Park, the Mayan temple, etc.
Isla Mujeres is famous for its impressive natural scenery that it offers and the beautiful views of the Caribbean Sea.
