Xel-Há is in the heart of the
Riviera Maya, 122 km south of Cancún, and 13 km north of the archaeological zone of Tulum, por la carretera Cancún-Tulum. Xel-Há is an ecological park located in the state of Quintana Roo, México. It is characterized by the cove in which the groundwater of the Yucatan peninsula
integrates to Mar Caribe, conforming a space for the coexistence of diverse marine and freshwater species. It is for this reason that Xel-Há is known to be a natural aquarium Xel-Há consists of two Mayan words that together signify “water entry”, which is a clear reference to its geographic structure, or “place where the waters “. For the Mayans, the location of Xel-Há contributed to the development of port activities. The zone seems to have had two periods of prehispanic occupation: in the Late Preclassic and the Early Classic.
